Message throttle bodies, remachining the compressor housings etc, you are near the cost of new Ball bearing turbos and you can make more power on stock IC piping and inlet piping and some greddy IC's with 530bb turbos than stock turbos with IC piping/inlet piping/massives etc (assuming have 740s, 3"dp, manifolds, etc.)

the time to save money definitely isn't on turbos. If anything, its better to wait to find a good deal on some used ash intercoolers , 2.5 IC piping, inlet piping etc, none of which really goes bad or gets worn out. the worst you can expect buying used piping and intercoolers is a bent pipe or some fins or a leak. The worst that you can expect with buying used turbos is finishing your R&R and having smoking turbos that you just wasted a ton of money on, aren't worth anything, and now require you to pull the motor again to replace them.
